James Gunn, the co-chair of DC Studios and the writer and director of “Superman: Legacy,” has announced the actors who will portray Superman and Lois Lane in the upcoming film. Gunn took to Twitter to share the news, which was later confirmed by a representative from Warner Bros.
For some time, there has been speculation about who would take on the iconic role of Superman after Henry Cavill’s portrayal on the big screen for the past decade. David Corenswet has been chosen for the role, beating out contenders like Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney. Corenswet, a 29-year-old actor from Philadelphia, gained recognition for his performances in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series “The Politician” and “Hollywood,” where he played an aspiring actor. He also recently starred in Ti West’s “Pearl” as a theater owner entangled with Mia Goth’s character, an aspiring actress.
On the other hand, Rachel Brosnahan, known for her lead role in the popular series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” has been cast as Lois Lane. Brosnahan’s portrayal of Midge Maisel garnered critical acclaim, earning her an Emmy and two Golden Globe awards. Other actors such as Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor were reportedly considered for the role of Lois Lane.
Gunn, along with experienced producer Peter Safran, was brought on board last year to revamp Warner Bros.’ DC strategy. Their ambitious plan spans a decade and begins with “Superman: Legacy.” Gunn has shared that the film will delve into Superman’s journey as he reconciles his noble Kryptonian heritage with his humble upbringing as Clark Kent in a small midwestern town.
Exciting times are ahead as Gunn brings his vision to the beloved Superman character, and Corenswet and Brosnahan step into the iconic roles of Superman and Lois Lane. Fans eagerly await the release of “Superman: Legacy” in July 2025 to witness this fresh take on the superhero’s story.
