Building a Strong Foundation: AIFF’s Blue Cubs Program

Indian football is set to witness a significant transformation as the All India Football Federation (AIFF) unveiled the logo of their flagship grassroots program, Blue Cubs. The program aims to engage 35 million children aged 4 to 12 by 2026 and expand that number to 100 million by 2047 as part of the “Vision 2047” initiative outlined in the Strategic Roadmap.

Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran, the Secretary General of AIFF, expressed his personal commitment to the development of grassroots football, emphasizing the importance of expanding the grassroots landscape in India. The Blue Cubs program was introduced by the AIFF Executive Committee during their recent meeting, recognizing its role in laying the foundation for the future success of the Blue Tigers. The program encompasses various partnerships with government organizations, NGOs, schools, clubs, and academies.

Dr. Prabhakaran highlighted the significance of the Blue Cubs program, stating that it would establish a robust structure within the football system. He acknowledged the lack of a comprehensive grassroots initiative and structure in the past, making the launch of the program even more significant.

The official commencement of the Blue Cubs program is scheduled for June, and it is expected to generate great enthusiasm and energy at the grassroots level. The program received a special inauguration as the logo was unveiled by the national team players.

To commemorate the contributions of Pradip Kumar Banerjee, fondly known as PK, who captained the Indian team at the 1960 Rome Olympics, AIFF Grassroots Day will now be celebrated on June 23, his birth anniversary. Dr. Prabhakaran expressed the desire to honor PK Banerjee’s legacy while encouraging more children to participate in the sport through the Blue Cubs project.

The AIFF’s commitment to grassroots football was evident during the AFC Grassroots Day festivities on May 15, where a record-breaking participation of over 40,000 children was observed across India. The success of this event showcased the growing interest and enthusiasm for the game at a grassroots level. The AIFF extends its gratitude to all member associations, clubs, academies, schools, and organizations that wholeheartedly participated in the AFC Grassroots Day celebrations, contributing to the promotion and development of grassroots football.

With the launch of the Blue Cubs program, Indian football takes a significant step towards nurturing young talent and building a solid foundation for the sport’s future success.
